Ideas for Your Startup

15 Oct

So you want to start your own business? It all starts with a great idea. Then you just have to find others interested in supporting your idea and venturing forth with you. That’s it—well, for starting up, that is.

So what are some ideas for a new business? It can be as small or large-scale as you want it to be. If you’re looking for a more casual business—perhaps as a supplement to your spouse’s income—it can be as simple as starting up a business for home daycare, yard work, errands, cleaning, “junk” removal & recycling, pet sitting/walking, or even business and home organization.

Another option is simply contracting out as a freelancer. In this way, you can work with a number of pre-existing companies writing, consulting, translating, or even bookkeeping. Doing this minimizes the cost and setup of your business and often allows you the freedom to work remotely.

Want to go bigger? You can create a business for virtually anything. Most importantly, make sure your idea is something you are passionate about doing. Having your own business will be a lot of work, and if your heart isn’t into it, keeping afloat will be a lot harder. Secondly, you want to pursue an idea that addresses a real world problem that isn’t being sufficiently met.

And remember, it’s ok to start small and build your way up. You can always add on to your business later, when it’s financially sustainable and ready for growth. It never hurts to think big, but start small.
